Blind flags

Hello,Surrealists of 1966 enumerate their weapons:

POETRY: (as opposed to literature) breathing like a machine-gun, exterminating the blind flags of immediate reality;Click to expand...
How do you imagine a blind flag (a faded / badly printed one)? Is this an allusion to something that I don't grasp (slalom flags / flag football)? Or do you think it's something to be taken literally / poetically, i.e. a sightless flag?

The reference to "a machine-gun" calls to mind battle flags. No, a flag can't be blind. What did you expect from surrealists, realism?
