Hey. Are phrases 'to exchange money' and 'to transfer money' the same in meaning and context?

Totally agree with angelsp, these two words can hardly be considered synonyms. However, they still have something in common. While both mean 'change of possession' in general, 'transfer' describes conveying or removing from one place, person, etc., to another in an unaltered state, 'exchange' refers to an action where something is given up for something else; parted with for some equivalent; changed for another. So 'in exchange' you always give anything different than the thing you get thus exchanging them.
